The Bright Ages: A New History of Medieval Europe by Matthew Gabriele
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This was a delight and I do want to read more by the authors. I’d cosign Bret Devereaux’s recommendation for it. I did find myself wishing it went through fewer subjects in more depth, because I enjoyed the writing style but was just getting into each subject when the chapter ended.
My favorite Things I Learned:
- the Nestorians moved east
- medieval city dwellers participated democratically in a number of institutions, particularly in guild life
- 100% of what I now know about the Franks (I’m not proud)
