I read that Gothic fiction was strewn with anti-Catholicism, and not having been familiar with that feature of the genre, I wanted to see what was meant. Hoooo boy. The depiction of oh my gosh black magic!! was more colorful than I’d suspected. Broadly it was fun to read low-quality pulpy fiction in the diction of the 1700s, and I’d recommend it to anyone who finds that reading easy. However, if older wordings are hard for you, save your efforts for something with greater literary merit.
