The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
(alt: Openlibrary)
It was… fine, I guess. I was surprised how it never worked for me; Black’s atmospheric prose still worked, but… I found the main character’s motivations unconvincing, and the designated romantic lead unappealing. I absolutely adored The Modern Faerie Tales (this is sort of related and features cameos, but in a more ponderous setting) and I was disappointed that I didn’t like this more. I would recommend this for… Well, for someone who likes Black’s skill at setting descriptions, wants something light, and doesn’t have anything better to hand.
I might try the second one if I’m strapped for fairy/goblinny themed YA.
